Establish clear and expected guidelines and rules regarding iPads in your class. These guidelines must be included in your course expectation sheet.
Students should keep their iPads cases closed when not in use.
Walk/teach all around the room to observe student work.
What to do if an iPad is being misused? Students should receive the following escalating consequences for misusing the iPad:
Teacher should tell student to close the case until you give directions otherwise
Teacher has a discussion with student during or after class
Teacher may take away iPad for part or all of the period BUT must return it at the end of class
Teacher contacts parent/guardian to discuss appropriate use of iPad
If misuse continues after contacting the parent, the teacher refers the student to a Dean.
What to do if a student doesn't bring his/her to class? Follow the same procedures you would use as if a student didn't bring a required material to class. If this becomes a pattern please contact the parent about the importance of being prepared. Do not send a student out of class to address the issue.
